Event RESCHEDULED: Turnout NYC!: Staten Island Black Heritage for Black Music Month

Join Staten Island Black Heritage for Black Music Month with: Celebrating Black Music through the Decades 1960’s – 2000’s. This will be a day of amazing performances showcasing different genres of Black music.

Master of Ceremonies: Bob Lee

 

In addition to his on-air roles, Lee also is the Community Affairs Director for WBLS. As part of his community-based work, Lee has developed strong ties to many local and national politicians and public figures, including President Clinton, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Mayor David Dinkins, and Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión. Lee also currently hosts the weekly live television program “Open,” which broadcasts on BronxNet, a cable television station serving the Bronx and upper Manhattan. The program features news and topics affecting the Bronx community and also treats viewers to new and established musical guests. 

Lee also appears frequently in the Harlem community as the host of live music and other events, such as Harlem Summer Stage and classic soul programs at the Apollo Theater featuring Regina Belle and Jeffrey Osborne. In addition, his strong ties to the community are reflected in his many charitable endeavors. Among other activities, Lee is a founder and board member of the Make the Grade Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that provides mentoring and aid to school children. Lee also helps college students interested in radio careers by serving as a mentor for “Table for Two,” a weekly music program which broadcasts from WLIU 88.1 FM radio in Brooklyn and which is staffed by interns from Long Island University. Finally, he is also involved in corporate speaking and promotional work for businesses with an interest in the welfare of the community.

WINAD HARPER AND THE JELI POSSE

Winard Harper is a virtuoso on the drum set and the balafon, the West African equivalent of the marimba. He is a sought-after collaborator at home and abroad, a band leader of his quartet, his quintet, and his exciting band the Jeli Posse, a regular with the legendary New York clubs, an educator of future.

We focus on artist content/ brand development, full concert and event production, and global music distribution through the WJW record label. Our network is designed to bring creatives and their audiences together. WJW welcomes the next generation of R&B and Hip-Hop talent. 

GREGINALD SPENCER & FRIENDS

Greginald Spencer is an international entertainer, singer, songwriter, recording artist, actor, event host, and music director, Greginald Spencer is best known for his larger-than-life personality and his powerfully soulful vocals. He’s a very versatile singer who performs multiple genres of music from, R&B, Soul and Gospel to Country, Funk and Pop. Greginald was the very first winner of Apollo Live, which aired on BET and featured guest judges, Gladys Knight, Doug E. Fresh, and Michael Bivins. Greginald brought down the house with his soul-stirring rendition of the Luther Vandross classic, “A House Is Not A Home.” He has since become the “Set It Off Man” of the Amateur Night at the legendary Apollo, making him the second in the theater’s history. Greginald is a social justice activist. He takes immense pride in mentoring and helping to develop the gifts of other young

Jah Jah Beats is thought provoking rap with a positive message for his people and community. Jah Jah wants to inspire young rappers to understand the importance of their platform. 

Turnout NYC is creating equitable arts access across the five boroughs with a season of concerts, performances, workshops, and more.

The Design Trust for Public Space is collaborating with SITU, an architectural practice centered on social and creative impact, on a major citywide effort to connect artists to the potential of public space, through new partnerships and infrastructure.
