As Austen carried her camera through the streets of the Lower East Side, she received brilliant smiles, curious stares, and impassive shrugs from immigrants to whom most yankees seemed a little old.  Many of the pushcart vendors and shoppers were simply too busy to pay her much attention.  Hester Street.  Egg stand group.
