Aura Studio—–>

Our aura photo station will be available all day for singles and couples with optional interpretation readings.
Free to attend, make an anthotype, and tour the museum.

Join Alice Austen House’s Education Department for an all-ages Anthotype workshop inspired by our spring 2023 exhibition Ecologies #3.

An anthotype is an image created using photosensitive material from plants. This process was originally invented by Mary Somerville who presented her research to Sir John Herschel (who is often misquoted as the inventor) in 1842. An emulsion is made from crushed flower petals or any other light-sensitive plant, fruit, or vegetable.

Registration is strongly encouraged.

MoMo’s Plant Pop-Up

MoMo’s Plants will be doing a plant pop-up shop, offering a fun selection of plants and planters as well as free potting services and plant care advice. Momo’s Plants is a curated collection of interesting plants and stylish planters, based in Brooklyn. With more than 10 years of experience in the horticulture field and a true passion for plants, Momo’s can set you up for success with personalized plant care tips and tricks. Spreading joy one plant at a time!

Join Genevieve (she/her), the Urban Agriculture Manager from NYRP (New York Restoration Project), as she sets up a mushroom log garden at Alice Austen House! Come join to learn about how to grow mushrooms outdoors on logs, and how to set up a shiitake mushroom garden. There will be opportunities for hands-on learning, including how to plant logs with shiitake mushrooms by drilling holes, filling and sealing logs with mushroom spawn. (children are welcome with parent/guardian present!)
