Sunday Salon: Jeff Mermelstein

Get up close and personal with NYC’s great street photographers in this new series of talks led by the museum’s curator, Paul Moakley. Each guest photographer will discuss their work, process, and hold an informal conversation about using the street as an open studio. $15/$12 museum members with code SALON. Jeff Mermelstein was born in 1957 in New Brunswick, New Jersey, and studied at Rutgers College and the International Center of Photography. You can find him on Instagram at @jeffmermelstein.

Over the years he has done assignments for publications such as LIFE, The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, and ad campaigns for Comms des Garsons, Topshop, and Adidas. He has photographed street life in New York City extensively and his works are held by institutions including the Art Institute of Chicago; the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House; and the New York Public Library. He has received the Aaron Siskind Foundation Individual Photographer’s Fellowship and the European Publishers Award for Photography.

Mermelstein is the author of many books including Side Walk (Dewi Lewis), No Title Here (powerHouse) and Twirl/Run (powerHouse).
