New York, NY 10003

Cocktails 6:30pm

Dinner 8:00pm

The Alice Austen House is the only museum in America dedicated to representing the life and work of one female photographer. The historic site honors Austen’s remarkable body of work and her photographic legacy by presenting dynamic exhibitions and educational programs in Austen’s circa 1690 home.

Alice Austen broke away from the constraints of her Victorian environment to create her own independent life, spending over 50 years in a devoted relationship with Gertrude Tate, nearly 30 of which were lived together at the Austen home. In 2017, Alice Austen House’s listing on the National Register of Historic Places was amended to include LGBTQ history as an area of significance.

This year, the Friends of Alice Austen House is recognizing the extraordinary accomplishments of two people in documenting the history of LGBTQ people through oral history and photography.
