1968: Magnum in New York  Magnum Photos is a photographic cooperative of great diversity and distinction owned by its photographer members. This exhibit contains thirty images by ten photographers including W. Eugene Smith, Bruce Davidson, Elliott Landy, and Elliott Erwitt.  The work of these ten artists in 1968: Magnum in New York has helped to define our sense of recent history.  

We offer photography and etiquette programs for ages 4 to adult for groups including scouts, school classes, and senior citizens.

A Juried Photography Competition for High School Students

We are looking for photographs that tell us something about race or reference race in some way.  Each submission will be judged based on creativity, technical ability, and connection to the theme.

The thirty-five photographs on display capture a New York rarely seen by visitors. These images of beaches, boardwalks, parks, preserves, bike paths, and apartment buildings are familiar to those who live near by.  Most of us would find it difficult to identify where the photos are taken or even believe that they are from our city. They are expression of the visual wealth, free of charge, which surrounds us.  All we need to access it is a bit of courage to explore, a willingness to look, and an unlimited Metrocard.

1-3PM  Matt-U has a strong background in live performance, and has majored in music both in the United States and in London.  He has toured across Europe and New York, and appeared at the Madison Square Garden Film Festival, the Apollo in Harlem, and MTV's Total Request Live. Century Dance Complex: spearheaded by Rose Kingston, Executive Director for CDC.  Having fled war-torn Liberia as a child, Rose Kingston spent years in a refugee camp before being given asylum with her family in the United States.  Once here, she transmuted her suffering and childhood trauma into dance and for learning. Tina Thompson Dance Theater preforming ROBE is a reflective work of choreography that consists of 3 sections: SHE TELLS shows the courage and faith that is needed to endure in today's world.  We must trust in something more powerful than ourselves or we have no foundation (Alpha and Omega).
CHURCH is women's external and internal longing for spiritual acceptance.  Through fellowship it allows her to tap into a higher source for inspiration and courage.

In this 3 hour class, adults will learn the basics of photography and leave with some great photos.

$30 fee includes cameras and prints!  If you don't have a camera, don't worry, we provide everything but individualized instruction will be given to those who bring their own cameras to learn.

Starlight Concert

Staten Island Philharmonic presents the Sing Out Staten Island concert. The program will include salutes to all five branches of the military as well as a tribute to the 200^th birthday of President Abraham Lincoln. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, a picnic basket or snacks, and spend the evening watching the fireworks light up the sky as you listen to a fabulous performance of American patriotic and popular tunes. Free admission. Begins at 6 p.m.
