This exhibit contains thirty images by ten photographers including W. Eugene Smith, Bruce Davidson, Elliott Landy, and Elliott Erwitt. The Water's Edge Photographs by William Meyers The thirty-five photographs on display capture a New York rarely seen by visitors. These images of beaches, boardwalks, parks, preserves, bike paths, and apartment buildings are familiar to those who live near by. Most of us would find it difficult to identify where the photos are taken or even believe that they are from our city. They are expression of the visual wealth, free of charge, which surrounds us. All we need to access it is a bit of courage to explore, a willingness to look, and an unlimited Metrocard. Join us for an afternoon reception with the artist on the beachfront estate overlooking Manhattan. Having fled war-torn Liberia as a child, Rose Kingston spent years in a refugee camp before being given asylum with her family in the United States. Once here, she transmuted her suffering and childhood trauma into dance and for learning. Tina Thompson Dance Theater preforming ROBE is a reflective work of choreography that consists of 3 sections: SHE TELLS shows the courage and faith that is needed to endure in today's world. We must trust in something more powerful than ourselves or we have no foundation (Alpha and Omega). CHURCH is women's external and internal longing for spiritual acceptance. Lori Belilove & The Isadora Duncan Dance Company will honor their namesake, revolutionary dancer Isadora Duncan, and Victorian rebel photographer Alice Austen, in a program of dances choreographed by Duncan, on the stunning grounds of Alice Austen House on Staten Island.
The Company and guest dancers will perform solos and group works from the Duncan repertory centered around themes of nature, a subject Duncan shared with Austen. With voice-over narrations and theatrical vignettes depicting the era, the program will unfold the life and art of the extraordinary dancer with sensational dancing, delighting audiences of all ages.
