Alice Austen took over 8,000 photographs in her lifetime. The collection was dispersed over several locations when Alice lost her home in 1945. Here is a selection of her photographs and their locations.

Mrs. Rusten Van Rensselaer and her daughter Emily at the family home, "Presqu'isle," Fishkill-on-Hudson-- so named because it was situated on a little peninsula, jutting out into the river, which was almost an island. The Van Rensselaers were relatives of Alice's grandmother, Mrs. John Haggerty Austen, and were cousins several times removed of Alice herself.

Moving Day for the Blunts

Gertrude (Trude) Eccleston, with her sister Mrs. Albert Blunt and the two Blunt children.  Both ladies are daughters of the minister of St. John's episcopal church where Austen and other fashionable Staten Isladers attended services.  The house is in Rosebank, Staten Island.

This vessel built in Bath, Maine, In 1889 was known as a "Coolie Ship."  The primary purpose of the ship was to bring immigrants from China and India to the United States.
