ALICE AUSTEN HOUSE AWARDED $250,000 GRANT
FROM THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES
Funds will update the museum's presentation of Alice Austen's photographs and story
March 29, 2017, Staten Island, NY: Alice Austen House announced today that it will receive $250,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to support updating the display of early American photographer Alice Austen's photographs at the historic museum that was once her home. Today, the NEH announced this Public Humanities grant for Historic Places as part of $21.7 million for more than 200 humanities projects nationwide. The funding for the specific project, New Eyes on Alice Austen: Redesigning the Museum's Permanent Installation, represents a significant contribution from the federal budget towards the total project needs to fully convey Alice Austen's broad signficance to New York City and United States history.
